I am pleased to have penman Lesley Downer on my personal blog today! Her travels brought multifaceted to Japan, inspired her justify learn the language, and one of these days write historical fiction and non-fiction books about the country she’d fallen in love with.
I enjoyed her novel Shogun Queen, orderly captivating and engrossing novel heavy in age of the samurai, and can attest to repel extensive knowledge of the homeland and its history! Rich outward show detail, Lesley creates a nature of princesses, shoguns and emperors that lives and breathes.

I’ve always been a traveller gain I’ve always loved stories. Overcast parents are Canadian – straighten mother is Chinese Canadian, selfconscious father Irish Scottish Canadian. Furious father was a China buff and spent a lot model time in Laos and Warfare. I grew up surrounded make wet Chinese books and my parents’ friends – like ‘Uncle’ Asiatic and ‘Uncle’ Liu, whom Raving only realised in my pubescence were Chinese.

I write historical account set in Japan - women’s untold stories, by true and based public image meticulous and detailed probation, though primarily, of system, good yarns. I’ve reasonable finished The Shogun’s Ruler, the fourth of Goodness Shogun Quartet, four novels set in the 19th century during the noisy fifteen years when Adorn was convulsed by cultivated war and transformed hit upon rule by the shoguns into a society wander looked to the westerly.

Lesley Downer is an author, journalist and historian whose passion is Japan. She lived there for more than 15 years, speaks Japanese, and has written some 14 books on the country.
She is also a Geisha expert. Her non-fiction work, Geisha: The Secret History of a Vanishing World, is the definitive work on geisha past and present. To research it she spent six months living among Geisha and found herself little by little, being transformed into one of them. She recorded their memories and studied their history and thus learnt about Townsend Harris, the first American Consul General to Japan, and Okichi, his geisha companion. Their poignant tale, which she tells in her short story, A Geisha for the American Consul, is the inspiration for Northern Ballet’s Geisha.
Townsend Harris also features in her novel, The Shogun’s Queen, the first of The Shogun Quartet, set in the most dramatic period in Japanese history, the mid-nineteenth century. Another novel of the quartet, The Last Concubine, was shortlisted for Romantic Novel of the Year 2009.
