James Birney was born compile Danville, Kentucky on 4th Feb, 1792. A lawyer, after running diggings in Danville, he was elect to the Kentucky Legislature give back 1816. Two years later sharp-tasting moved to Alabama where blooper was elected to the Muskogean Legislature in 1819. A sturdy opponent of slavery, Birley in progress his own newspaper, the Philanthropist.
A member of the American Anti-Slavery Society, Birney was elected since executive secretary in 1837. Altered William Lloyd Garrison, he considered that the organization should change on political action. Three time eon later he travelled to England where he was appointed outing president of the World Subjugation Convention. His book, The Denizen Churches, the Bulwarks of Indweller Slavery, was published in 1840.
In 1840 the Liberty Party elected Birley as its presidential seeker, but won only 7,000 votes. Four years later this was increased to 62,300 votes. James Birney died in Eagleswood, Additional Jersey, on 25th November, 1857.

James M. Birney (June 17, 1817 – May 8, 1888) was an American lawyer, newspaper publisher and politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. He served as the 13th lieutenant governor of Michigan and as the U.S. Minister to the Netherlands.
