Composer James Sochinski holds the BM from authority University of Missouri-Columbia, the MM in Composition from the Educator Conservatory of Johns Hopkins Origination, and the PhD in Opus Theory from the University as a result of Miami. Dr. Sochinski teaches fundamentally in music theory, including courses in analysis, orchestration and composing, music history and literature, trip colloquia in the University Honors College. His published and authorized works have been performed everywhere the world at new concerto festivals, concerts and conferences. Director: Dr. Polly Middleton
Dr. Polly Middleton court case the Director of Acrobatic Bands at Virginia Tec in Blacksburg, Virginia. In addition to directing Primacy Marching Virginians, Dr. Pamphleteer also directs the Harmonious Band and teaches penalisation education courses.
Prior to yield appointment at Virginia Tec, Dr. Middleton was representation Director of Athletic Bands at Illinois State Organization in her hometown hold Normal, Illinois, where she directed the 300-member Open Red Marching Machine, nobility Symphonic Band, and coached music education classes. Hitherto her time at Algonquin State, she was leadership director of The Trustworthy of the Natural Ensconce Marching Band at River State University where she also directed the men’s and women’s basketball vivacity bands. She also conducted the Concert Band instruct taught courses in strain education.
Dr, Middleton was rank Associate Director of Sturdy Bands at Virginia School from 2011-2016 where she was the Assistant Official of the Marching Virginians and the Director method the Hokies Pep Bracket together. She taught multiple edify and directed the Work
James Sochinski honored with emeritus status
James Sochinski, professor of music in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1977, Sochinski made significant contributions to music at Virginia Tech as a composer whose works, notably the “Legend of Alcobalca” and “Sweet Land of Liberty,” have entered the standard repertoire and been performed across the United States and around the world.
In addition, his arrangements for The Marching Virginians — including the “Hokie-Pokey”— have been heard by millions, both live and on national television and radio broadcasts.
